Le fiu fait partie de l’existence tahitienne authentique. Il existe toujours dans les îles les plus reculées de Polynésie, là où la nature garde encore une bonne part de sa puissance d’inspiration*. Le fiu, c’est l’instauration naturelle immédiate de la grève sauvage. Le fiu est cette puissance naturelle d’inertie qui s’empare de l’individu dans n’importe quelle situation et fait de lui un absent. Indisponible, inintéressé, injoignable. Je suis là mais je n’y suis plus. Je ne viendrai pas travailler, il y a urgence absolue à ne rien faire.

Le fiu est généralement défini, dans les dictionnaires falsifiés, comme un état d’âme proche du spleen, alors qu’il serait à tout prendre bien plus proche de la vacuité bouddhique.

Il est cet appel naturel performatif  par quoi l’individu court-circuite le stress, la frénésie, la contrainte. La dissolution radicale, soudaine et irrépressible, de tous les problèmes attachés au sérieux de l’existence et de tout le sérieux attaché à ces problèmes. Le fiu est l’ennemi du productivisme, de la rentabilité, du temps compté, du travail aliéné.

Il est la forme naturelle primitive du refus tout puissant de toute contrainte.

The all-powerful « fiu ».

The fiu is part of the authentic Tahitian existence. It still exists in the most remote islands of Polynesia, where nature still retains much of its power of inspiration*. Fiu is the immediate natural establishment of the wild shore. The fiu is this natural power of inertia which seizes the individual in any situation and makes him absent. Unavailable, uninterested, unreachable. I am there but I am not there anymore. I will not come to work, there is an absolute urgency to do nothing.

Fiu is generally defined, in falsified dictionaries, as a state of mind close to spleen, whereas it would be much closer to Buddhist emptiness.

It is that natural performative call by which the individual bypasses stress, frenzy and constraint. The radical, sudden and irrepressible dissolution of all the problems attached to the seriousness of existence and of all the seriousness attached to these problems. The fiu is the enemy of productivism, of profitability, of the counted time, of alienated work.

It is the primitive natural form of the powerful refusal of all constraints.
